{"id":1486,"date":"2019-05-22T13:58:22","date_gmt":"2019-05-22T19:58:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/support.prl.ab.ca\/?p=1486"},"modified":"2019-05-22T13:58:53","modified_gmt":"2019-05-22T19:58:53","slug":"youth-teaching-adults-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/support.prl.ab.ca\/index.php\/2019\/05\/22\/youth-teaching-adults-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth Teaching Adults Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Many of you already have a great way of addressing the digital divide and providing intergenerational programs, but here is another program idea if you aren\u2019t already doing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youthteachingadults.ca\/\">Youth Teaching Adults<\/a> is a program designed for youth volunteer-tutors to teach digital literacy skills to adult learners in a one-on-one workshop environment.\u00a0\u00a0Here are some tips if you are thinking about implementing something in your library: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Is this a need? Do you have willing volunteers?<ol type=\"a\"><li>Contact you senior patrons, ask them to ask their non-library-using friends. Ask members of senior centers, lodges, homes etc.<\/li><li>Contact high schools, youth centers, volunteer centers, teen library patrons. <\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>Create a schedule: determine how often they would like to meet (once a month?) maybe start with a onetime only, and based on feedback gage your repetition.<\/li><li>Collect registrations via Wufoo or in library (ask perceived knowledge, ask what devices people use, ask what seniors would like to learn).<\/li><li>Based on registration and knowledge, pair teens and seniors (pairings can change depending on the type of device\/knowledge being shared).<\/li><li>Send out reminders a few days before the program, invite participants to bring their own devices.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Day of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Make introductions between pairs, ensure they have all the equipment needed to go over the topic.<\/li><li>It might be useful to have reminder cards to start off the topics.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many of you already have a great way of addressing the digital divide and providing intergenerational programs, but here is another program idea if you aren\u2019t already doing it.
