Advocacy Committee Changes – We’re Still Here to Help

Advocacy Committee Changes – We’re Still Here to Help

At our organizational board meeting on November 27, the Parkland Board decided not to elect an advocacy committee. While this means we won’t be creating advocacy resources in advance, our commitment to supporting your advocacy efforts remains strong.

Parkland will continue to champion provincial advocacy initiatives to secure increased funding for all public libraries across Alberta and address other key issues.

Municipal advocacy led by local libraries is vital for sustaining community support and funding. We encourage library boards to engage in regular advocacy at the municipal level, and we’re here to help whenever you need us. Numerous advocacy resources are already available for you to use. Additionally, in 2026, Andrea (Parkland) and Lesley (Olds Municipal Library) will be working on additional advocacy plans and resources to be shared with member libraries. We believe that a member library-led approach to advocacy will be more impactful if carried out by local library staff and boards; however, we want to ensure libraries are equipped with the right tools to make advocacy easy and rewarding. More details to come!

In the meantime, if you need assistance with your advocacy initiatives, please reach out – we’re happy to support you in any way we can.
