Central Alberta Refugee Effort (C.A.R.E.) is delighted to work with libraries in our region to deliver a Cultural Café. Cultural Cafés are a great introduction to learning about different cultures, meeting people from other countries, and a way to bring new patrons into your library – especially newcomers to your community. C.A.R.E. staff will organize the event and bring volunteers from different countries. The library provides a space, helps to promote the event, and provides refreshments. C.A.R.E. will work with you to personalize the Cultural Café for your library. Contact Jan or Sadia at 403.346.8818 with questions or to make a booking.
Libraries can also partner with C.A.R.E. to deliver Intercultural Workshops in your community. These workshops are designed to improve intercultural awareness and communications in the workplace. If your library doesn’t have enough staff/volunteers to fill this workshop, invite other local businesses and service organizations for a joint community learning experience.
There are three levels of Intercultural Workshops, each building upon learning from the previous session.
Level 1: Cultural knowledge, awareness and sensitivity
Level 2: Intercultural communication styles
Level 3: Practical Application of cultural knowledge
Certificates are issued to participants who complete all three levels.
