Summer is just around the corner and TD’s Around the World Summer Reading Club is about to get started!
Summer reading clubs, whether you are creating your own or participating in one, can be a powerful way to bring families and communities together through shared stories. Reading clubs can also help diminish the dreaded “summer reading gap”, the decline in reading skills kids experience over longer school breaks.
Starting June 9, the TDSRC website will launch and they recommend starting a “registration kickoff” within 2 weeks of the launch. Kids can register in-person or participate online, tracking their reading, reviewing books and participating in weekly trivia. On TD’s staff site you will find activities, crafts, colouring pages, 3D print files, and graphics for your club promotion. TD also has a number of resources to help support reading for all types of learners.
Parkland will have an Around the World program kit for circulation in June. This kit can be used to help facilitate your reading program with an educational map, games, crafts and activities. Have fun and learn about the world this summer, one page at a time!
